Positive change through positive intent

Positive intent sounds like such a small thing, like the watered-down ”It´s the thought that counts!” when you open the annual christmas gift of hand-knitted socks from aunt Lucinda. But a positive intent is a positive intent for your entire surroundings to grow to the better. You have consciously chosen to become a positive factor instead of a negative.

Oh, aunt Lucinda, thank you, thank you so much. You really shouldn´t have... So kind. Grey socks. Hand-knitted, yes, I see. Oh dear, how nice. Yes, it is the thought that counts, you are so right.”
All the stiff smiles you´ve had to hold up in front of presents. You hope to get a book – a dvd – a toy – a power tool – an Ipod – an Ipad – and instead, you getting something...else. Something you are so perfectly fine without that you´re looking for a good place to hide it already when you see the first glimpse inside the paper.
It´s the thought that counts. How perky.
  But true.
A positive intent is a positive investment in your surroundings. We underestimate that. It is a big thing: you have made a conscious choice to become a positive factor instead of a non-caring, impassively negative.
People get stuck in life. The job, the kids, the car, the dog, the, umm, wife. The wife, dog, car, job, ummm, kids. We get stuck in the muddle, in all the bills and distractions in our underlying hope that one day, one day I want a whole day without problems. Just one. Imagine. One day when I can relax and rest. One day.
And it gets so easily to that point where people think they have no time to be positive. They become indifferent. Not for any particular reason, not from a planned intention to be unpleasant or nasty, just stressed. Indifferent. It´s someone else´s problem.
So, that the thought counts is not as dumb as it sound. To help Ruth, 82, on the bus, to help a store clerk or a bus-driver, to thank them when things have been working well and not just complain when things to wrong; small things. Small things with a big effect. One positive intent changes the whole world to the better, even if the effect you think you can see is small.
The thought does count. Be proud over yourself if you choose to have positive intent. And be proud of yourself too, while you´re at it. It´s a great thing to be.
If you have a positive intent, have one about yourself while you´re at it.
  ´Cause the thought does count.
